rrespective of whether you fly or drive, getting to Epupa is an experience in itself. A flight from Windhoek, for example, will take you past Etosha and the fascinating Zebra Mountains before descending along the Kunene River. Arriving by car you will gradually see the landscape become more and more wild and desolate as you pass small Himba villages and perhaps some of the wild animals that roam the region.

By road (from Windhoek)
Himba men on donkeysEpupa Camp is located on the banks of the Kunene River in Kaokoland. The most suitable route from Windhoek is to take the B1 to Otjiwarongo (237km), the C38 to Outjo (66km), the C40 to Kamanjab (155km), followed by the C35/C41 to Opuwo (243 km). From Opuwo take the C43 north. From here, the remaining distance to Epupa is approximately 200 km (3 hours drive) on good, spacious gravel road. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Upon your arrival to Epupa, simply follow the signs for "Epupa Camp." We are about 700 metres upstream from the main falls.

By road
Himba boys1) Drive west along the Kunene River via Swartbooisdrift, then turn off towards Epembe (D3701) and then right on the C43 via Okongwari. Approximately 184 km (4 hour drive). 4x4 vehicles are recommended. Upon your arrival to Epupa simply follow the signs for "Epupa Camp." We are about 700m upstream from the main falls.

By plane
Fly to the Epupa airstrip 7 km from Epupa Camp. Fly-in guests are collected at the airstrip and driven through the mountainous landscape in our open safari vehicles. Stepping out of a small plane in this part of the world feels much like stepping into Karen Blixen's Out of Africa.
