rrespective of whether you fly or drive, getting to Epupa is an experience in itself. A flight from Windhoek, for example, will take you past Etosha and the fascinating Zebra Mountains before descending along the Kunene river. Arriving by car you will gradually see the landscape become more and more wild and desolate as you pass small Himba villages and perhaps some of the wild animals that roam the region.
By road (from Windhoek)
Epupa Falls Lodge is located on the banks of the Kunene river in Kaokoland. The most suitable route from Windhoek is to take the B1 to Otjiwarongo (237km), the C38 to Outjo (66km), the C40 to Kamanjab (155km), followed by the C35/C41 to Opuwo (243 km). Most of this drive is done on good tar road. The entire road should be tarred by early 2009.
From Opuwo take the C43 north. From here, the remaining distance to Epupa is approximately 200 km (3 hours drive) on good, spacious gravel road. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Upon your arrival to Epupa, simply follow the signs for "Epupa Falls Lodge." We are about 700 metres upstream from the main falls.
